Hadley Wood to host ‘rules’ schools’

England Golf, the governing body for amateur golf in England, has announced that Hadley Wood Golf Club in Hertfordshire will be hosting two ‘County Rules Schools’ this autumn. This is due to the success of previous events during the last two years across the country.
England Golf deputy championship manager Toby Thorne said: “We are delighted to be taking our County Rules School to Hertfordshire for the first time and in particular to Hadley Wood Golf Club. We are aware that counties surrounding London like Hertfordshire, Middlesex and Essex have a strong knowledge base when it comes to the rules of golf and all have active tournament panels.”
The schools not only improve the rules’ knowledge of all those who attend the event but have also so far attracted over 250 delegates – with many passing with distinction, giving their associated county unions a potential new source of qualified ‘county referees’ to officiate at county championships and tournaments. The schools will seek to actively encourage new and existing golfers who wish to improve their rules’ knowledge and enable experienced county referees to receive a nationally recognised qualification.
The emphasis for the County Rules School will be placed on both practical tuition and stimulating demonstrations that will cover some of the most commonly encountered rulings in golf while also providing delegates with the opportunity to put their own knowledge and learning into practice during refereeing role-play sessions. Discussing the rules’ schools’ programme and role, Thorne said: “Our schools enable those who are already experienced county referees to gain a qualification that is recognised nationally, whilst also giving opportunity for a wider number of people to improve and further their rules knowledge. A key focus of the County Rules School programme is to provide hands-on experience, guidance and insight into the duties of a referee, which we believe offers the best way of learning and improving performance.”
Due to the schools’ impressive running over the last two years it can be anticipated that Hadley Wood Golf Club will have many visitors in the coming months and it is therefore requested that delegates have at least a basic understanding and knowledge about the rules of golf before attending the schools so to maximise their productivity during the stimulating programme.
