Has rain affected your golf club this ‘summer’?5th July, 2012 by Jenny Yu
The wet weather from April through to July in the UK has caused all sorts of problems for golf clubs – and more rain is forecast.
For example, the World Blind Golf Championship had to be postponed, Orsett Golf Club was closed during parts of June and The Night Golf Company said it has run only four competitions this year because balls keep picking up mud in the rough.
However, some venues have stated that the wet weather has only caused minimal disruption. A spokesman for Royal Ascot Golf Club said the course “stood up pretty well”, the golf manager at Abbeydale Golf Club added that while the rain has been ridiculous, his club has gained golfers due to its drainage system, and the head PGA professional at The Springs Golf Club said that pro shop takings are up 10 per cent on last year!
