The Golf Power List: 40-314th July, 2012 by admin
38. Shona Malcolm, chief executive of the Ladies’ Golf Union and chair of the Scottish Ladies’ Golfing Association
The Ladies’ Golf Union (LGU) is the encompassing body for ladies’ amateur golf in Great Britain & Ireland, and owns the Women’s British Open, and all adult female members of golf clubs pay a small amount towards it via the affiliation fees in their annual subscriptions (although under Shona’s stewardship, the union hopes to become self-financing – if it does, this levy will be removed).
The Scottish Ladies’ Golfing Association (SLGA) administrates amateur ladies’ golf in Scotland.
Unsurprisingly, Shona, a chartered accountant by trade with 20 years of experience of golf governance at local, national and international level, is arguably amateur ladies’ golfers’ biggest cheerleader. She’s also helped the SLGA forge closer ties with the Scottish Golf Union and has helped the LGU receive significant television coverage on Sky Sports.
