Golf Power List: 30-2112th July, 2012 by admin
27. Peter Alliss, broadcaster, author, magazine contributor and golf course designer
The ‘voice of golf’ is famous the world over and no Open Championship would be complete without Peter’s commentary. Unsurprisingly, he is also one of the most sought-after after dinner speakers at golf events.
His power to shape the golfing industry also comes from his course design work. The Belfry, Woburn and Brocket Hall are just three top UK golf venues that have seen their courses shaped by the octogenarian.
This year, Peter, who has twice been captain of the Professional Golfers’ Association, was the first president of the European Women’s Professional Golfers Association, was president of the British Greenkeepers’ Association (now BIGGA) and has written 20 books on golf, was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame. This doesn’t mean he has now stopped increasing his influence over golf however. This summer alone, Tourism Ireland commissioned Peter to front promotional activity that showcases Irish clubs to Britain and the USA.Share on Pinterest and other social networks
