EGU and EWGA officially merge
1st January, 2012 by Tania Longmire
As of today, the English Golf Union (EGU) and the English Women’s Golf Association (EWGA) have officially merged into one organisation.
Since 1924 male amateur golfers were run by the EGU and the ladies since 1952 by EWGA, however that changes from today with the creation of England Golf – one national governing body to represent all amateur golfers in England.
The headquarters of England Golf will be at the National Golf Centre at Woodhall Spa for at least the time being. The EWGA offices in Edgbaston will continue to be in use until at least October 2012.
Affiliation fees for men and women will be harmonised on this day in two years’ time.
As a result of the merger, the post of CEO of EWGA no longer exists and as such Jim Robinson, CEO of EWGA, left the association yesterday.
Sylvia Perrins, the outgoing acting chairman of the EWGA, said: “I am sure that you will want to join me in recognising the huge contribution Jim has made to the EWGA in his period of office and the respect he has earned in the golfing community. As the outgoing acting chairman I would like to thank Jim for his commitment, hard work and loyalty to EWGA during this period.”
