Who is ‘The Golf Mole’?

15th December, 2011 by Colin Victor

A number of companies that supply products to golf clubs are asking ‘who is ‘The Golf Mole’?’ after an email was sent around the industry yesterday and today.

Sent from the address golfmole@gmail.com, ‘The Golf Mole’ provides negative commentary about two major companies that work with golf clubs, particularly surrounding their financial performances.

A spokesman for one of the companies mentioned has said that the email “contains factual errors”.

A spokesman for a company that is not named in the email, but is a competitor to one that is named, has said the email is causing a stir in the industry. “A customer called us this morning asking to see a copy of our accounts as a result of the email,” he said.

A Twitter account of @TheGolfMole was set up when the first email was sent out yesterday. It has responded to this news story by stating: “my email does not “contains factual errors”.” It added: “Who is the golf mole? Well not a disgruntled ex-employee of any company mentioned in my email.”

Another tweet said: “I’ve had some emails. I have no axes to grind, no scores to settle. Just telling the truth. All the facts are in the public domain!”

The @golfingmole Twitter feed, set up by a man who also works with golf clubs and runs a ‘Golf Mole’ website, has got nothing to do with the email. This morning it tweeted: “Please rest assured we are not associated with any recent press releases from ‘The Golf Mole’.”

If you think you know who ‘The Golf Mole’ is, please email golf@unionpress.co.uk or tweet @AlDunsmuir
