Turfgrass science student wins college award

30th November, 2011 by Emma Williams

Jonathan Wall, an assistant greenkeeper at the Royal Hong Kong Golf Club, has won Myerscough College’s best student award.

Jonathan, a part-time student for the past three years, graduated with a BSc (Hons) degree in turfgrass science and was presented with the Ransomes Jacobsen Cup in recognition of his commitment and contribution to the study programme.

“Jon graduated as top student in his cohort, achieving an excellent degree and deservedly won the Ransomes Jacobsen Cup,” said Dr Andrew Owen, course tutor. “He was a very active member of the group and was one of the three students from Myerscough selected by The R&A to examine sustainable management practices on a field visit to Askernish Golf Club, on the isle of South Uist. He also completed an excellent research dissertation on the effects of heat stress on agrostis stolonifera – creeping bent grass.”
