17th November, 2011 by Jenny Yu

Golf charity the Golf Foundation has received a £5,000 cheque from The Golf Show exhibition. The donation was made by show organisers the Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA), Foremost Golf and the TGI Golf Partnership.

Organisers presented national development manager for the charity, Brendon Pyle, with the cheque for money donated by PGA professionals, the show committee and golf companies during the event. The Golf Foundation team was also given a generous stand space for the whole three days of the exhibition in which to showcase its work in schools, clubs and communities.

Brendon Pyle said: “Money raised during The Golf Show plus the support shown to our team as we introduced show visitors to all our national HSBC Golf Roots activities, added up to a hugely generous donation to our cause. This money will help in our aim to give opportunities through golf to youngsters from all backgrounds, including offering ‘Skills for Life’ as they develop as people.

“Every penny of this donation will be spent in our school and club programmes that have a proven track record. We have an ambitious target of reaching one million youngsters a year by 2013 and so all donations are hugely appreciated and needed.”

During the presentation of the cheque, Sandy Jones, chief executive of the PGA, spoke of the “huge importance” of encouraging the next generation of young players and how “PGA professionals have a great understanding of, and show strong support for, the work of the Golf Foundation.”
