Caledonian GC rejects proposed merger

The members of one golf club in Aberdeen have rejected an offer to merge with another two clubs following fears for the future of all three due to the loss of a local football stadium.
Northern, Bon Accord and Caledonian golf clubs all rely on income from supporters of Aberdeen Football Club on match days, but the soccer team is moving from nearby Pittodrie to Loirston Loch in 2013, which could lead to all three clubs going bankrupt.
Members of the three clubs voted on a proposed merger to become Kings Links Golf Club this week, which is supported by Scottish Golf Union chief executive Hamish Grey and Aberdeen City Council, which offered to negotiate terms for a proposed site for the new £1 million clubhouse. While Northern Golf Club supported the motion unanimously and Bon Accord members also voted in favour of it, Caledonian members voted against the amalgamation.
Northern captain Derek Johnstone said he was disappointed with Caledonian’s decision but vowed to continue the fight.
