Council puts club at heart of marketing drive

A member of Ilfracombe Golf Club in Devon, who is also a councillor for the local council, has put the golf club at the heart of a national marketing drive to attract people to the town.
Philip Webb, who is also chairman of Ilfracombe Tourism Marketing Group, said that the golf club would attract more people with “plenty of money in their pockets”.
“When I joined the club last year I was stunned by the high quality but amazed at how badly it was marketed,” he said.
“I invited club members to a marketing meeting and explained how some targeted publicity could help the club and the town.
“We’ve included the club in 120,000 promotional leaflets which will be distributed throughout the country.
“We’re so lucky to have such a great course with spectacular views and we should be shouting about it.”
Mr Webb has helped the club design new leaflets and adverts, and its website has been revamped as a result of his input. The clubhouse is also now promoting itself as a venue for conferences and functions.
